Book Description:
The excitement felt in the Winner’s Circle vanishes when the jockey’s beloved horse disappears from his stall in the dark of night. Patrick McCallin is a young Irish lad growing up in the 1980’s when all of Ireland is groaning under the weight of The Troubles. Born to ride, he pays little mind to the political unrest going on around him. He dreams only of becoming a jockey. Patrick’s dream comes true when he is selected to ride an up-and-coming Thoroughbred, named Fionn MacCool, in the biggest races in England and Ireland. Race after race ends with Fionn and Patrick in the Winner’s Circle. The pair captures the heart of all Ireland. But the dream becomes a nightmare when Patrick’s beloved horse is kidnapped and held for ransom. When the horse’s owner refuses to pay and the Irish Garda closes the case, Patrick and his best friends, Ronan and Maddie, have no choice but to find Fionn themselves.

GUEST POST

What Genre do you write and why?

Finding Fionn is my twenty-third book. I have written four non-fiction books, five picture books, nine fantasy books, one coming of age book, and four historical fiction books. While that may seem quite diverse, there is one common thread that runs through all but six of them: Namely, HORSES!

My non-fiction books are equestrian trail guidebooks for trails in Colorado. The first two are day trips, the second two are overnight trips. All are designed for people who have their own horse, a trailer, and a desire to explore my beautiful state. (Series: Riding Colorado)

All but two of my fantasies are about horse-based fantasy creatures. The Mist Trilogy (Behind the Mist, Mists of Darkness, and The Rising Mist) is an urban fantasy about the noble and great horses who are chosen to become unicorns when they die. The Centaur Chronicles is a classic good vs. evil fantasy filled with fantasy creatures, especially centaurs! It is a four-book series.

My coming-of-age novel, titled In the Heart of a Mustang, is about a teenage boy who is sent to a horse therapy ranch in Arizona.

My historical fiction novels are: PINTO! – Based Upon the True Story of the Longest Horseback Ride in History, The Sand Pounder-Love and Drama on Horseback in WWII, The Stallion and His Peculiar Boy-Based on the Life of the Famous Arabian Horse Witez II, and finally, my new book, Finding Fionn-A Mystery Inspired by the Kidnapping of the Irish Racehorse Shergar.

As you can tell, my passion is horses! I have learned that writing about something I love makes it easy to fill my books with emotion. So, when I’m not writing, I’m usually riding!

If you want to become a writer, begin by writing about something you love.  It can be as diverse as your favorite hobbies, places you’ve visited, or people in your family. You don’t have to stick to just one genre. You can see that I certainly haven’t. But do keep it fun so that writing will be something you enjoy.

I hope you’ll be able to read some of my books!
