Tabby Winslow will help her twin sister Sage with anything and everything—and that includes putting out the flames of suspicion when Sage’s boss is found murdered in this magical mystery, perfect for fans of Amanda Flower and Sofie Kelly.
December in Savannah, Georgia, is a sight to behold. With all the festivities—including the traditional riverfront luminary display during the boat parade—twin sisters Tabby and Sage Winslow are busier than ever setting up for the big celebration. But that isn’t the only thing on the sisters’ minds. Both Sage and her fellow employee Mary Nicole are vying for the sought-after assistant manager job at the plant nursery. But when Loren Lee, their boss, is found dead, and Sage becomes the police’s favorite suspect, both Winslow girls know that they’ll need more than a flicker of magic and their sisterhood to solve the murder and clear Sage’s name.
Soon, Tabby realizes that this is just one of the many problems they have. If being a suspect for murder wasn’t enough, there are more magical problems that they have to fix: Sage’s boyfriend is having a paranormal experience of his own he can’t control, there’s an energy vampire searching for his supposedly lost cousin, her cat suddenly dislikes her, and oh—every time Tabby hiccups, she turns completely invisible. The suspect list grows with each day and it seems everyone has a reason or a connection to Loren Lee.
Tabby and Sage are burning the candle at both ends—but will it be enough to keep their friends safe and find this killer? Or will they be burned by their efforts?
CHARACTER INTERVIEW
What are the 4 qualities of a good character?
“Hi, everyone, Tabby Winslow here. I consider myself a good character most of the time so I’ll answer in regard to myself. First, I am a natural-born helper. In fact, I feel better when I help others, whether its to run an errand, do a chore, or even to gift them with an energy boost, helpfulness is the key to my happiness.
“Second, I’d do anything for my family. I love them and couldn’t imagine life without them, especially my twin sister, Sage and Auntie O. We all keep the family secrets and enjoy our time together.
“Third, I have a passion for candlemaking. At times it feels like I was born a hundred years too late, but people rave about my candles. Not only are they scented just right, but they are also infused with my good energy. It’s a bit like aromatherapy and often does more than lift a person’s spirits, though it’s best if you don’t mention that claim to the Food and Drug Administration.
“Lastly, I have curiosity in abundance. I have to have answers to a problem, so when murders began happening to friends of the family and our customers, I naturally stepped up and answered the call to action.”
How do you feel about your life right now? What, if anything, would you like to change?
I’m less panicked about co-owning a business now that Sage and I are turning a profit each month. Now the trick is to acquire or create just the right amount of inventory to stay ahead of demand. In my personal life, I am madly, deeply in love with Quig. He’s been my friend forever and we suddenly became much more than friends. I can’t imagine a day without him now. He is absolutely essential to me. My twin sister, Sage, and I get along well. Most of the time our differences mesh nicely so that our strengths cover for the other’s weaknesses. If anything, I wish Mom had stayed alive long enough to know that both her girls had found love. And I’d have the opportunity to ask her why she’d hidden us from Savannah’s paranormal community for so long.”
What do you consider the most important event of your life so far?
“In the last year, at age thirty, I embarked on a business odyssey with my fraternal twin sister Sage, begun cohabitating with my boyfriend, Quig, and learned to embrace the paranormal aspects of my talent. That’s a lot to happen in one year, and it’s a wonder I don’t feel like I’m careening out of control on water skis. But the honest truth is that I’ve made peace with who I am. I am the sum of all of my parts, skills, and talents. I no longer cringe away from using my paranormal energy talents, and in fact often use them to help gauge what emotional state a person is in. If they need help, I stive to give it. Some of us take a little longer to grow up. I’m just glad that I finally am comfortable in my own skin.”
“Thanks for interviewing me, Lady Hawkeye. It’s been a pleasure to visit with you.” –Tabby Winslow
