Hi! I’m Dove Agnew, former successful dress designer who was living the high life in New York, until my sleazy business partner used my business to move his drugs, leaving me to pack my ruined reputation and move back home to the tiny town of Harland Creek.
Despite the setback, all was going relatively well until I found Gertrude Brown’s body on the floor of my mom’s quilt shop. Now, rumors are flying and all eyes are on me. I’m a murder suspect! Even my ex-boyfriend, the current chief of police, is suspicious of me.
Now, it’s up to me to clear my name and find out who the real killer is before someone else gets hurt. But I’m going to need help, and the Harland Creek Quilters, and a goat named Petunia, are just the group to get things done.
Welcome to the new series set in the beloved town of Harland Creek.
With the quilting club ladies and a sidekick, which happens to be a goat, this book will keep you guessing and laughing out loud!
GUEST POST
Hi! I’m Jodi Allen Brice and I am the author of The Mystery of the Tea Cup Quilt. I’ve written over thirty novels under different pens names, but started strictly writing under Jodi Allen Brice in 2020.
There are two things I am really crazy about. Okay, three things if you count animals.
The first thing is, of course, writing! I spend my days at my computer writing scenes where my character has gotten herself in trouble and trying desperately to get out of that trouble.
The second thing I love is quilting. Actually quilting saved my writing career. Back when the pandemic hit, I was writing under a different pen name and I was trying to finish two novels that were just sitting in the files of my computer. I had readers emailing and asking when the next books were coming out. I didn’t have an answer. I was stuck and depressed and could not write a sentence to save my life. I happened to go into a quilt store in my city and I heard they were doing a quilt retreat. Quilt retreat? I had never heard of such a thing. Apparently the owner hosts two quilt retreats a year. One in the fall and one in the spring. Well, it was spring so I signed up. That in itself was a big deal. I’m an introvert, didn’t know anyone that would be there, and I was scared that I might make a fool out of myself and not be able to put a needle on my sewing machine if it broke. I tend to stress about the weirdest things. Anyway, the retreat last three days and the host gives you a pattern for two quilts. You are responsible for getting your own fabric. The first year I attended, I finished two quilts during those three days. I was stunned at how productive I could be. Before writing full time, about ten years ago, I used to quilt all the time. But I was slow and wasn’t really focused. But that quilt retreat changed everything. After the retreat, I bought patterns and thread and fabric. Once I started quilting at home, I started finding my joy again. It seemed one creative outlet spurred on my writing career. I found that during quilting, I could let my mind wander and come up with some great ideas for stories. That’s when I began writing under Jodi Allen Brice.
I started out with small town romance and women’s fiction. And then an idea hit. What if I wrote a cozy mystery involving a quilt shop and all the older ladies who quilt help solve the cases?
An idea was born! And I tied it into my Harland Creek series so my readers would recognize my characters in The Mystery of the Tea Cup Quilt. Oh, and like many cozy mysteries, there is an animal. Kind of like a mascot. But it’s not a dog or cat.
It’s a goat named Petunia.
All of the books in this series will have the name of a quilt in the title. The second book, which releases in January, is The Mystery of the Drunkards Path.
Since that first quilt retreat I attended, I have written a total of eleven books with two more releases this year. That’s no including the thirty I wrote under a different pen name.
I am now a firm believer in ‘filling your creative well’. I have also found that being out in nature helps gives me ideas for stories. We recently bought a camper and go camping when the weather or time allows. I always take my computer with me so I can write at night. My husband doesn’t mind. He’s busy watching war movies. J
The Mystery of The Tea Cup Quilt takes place in Harland Creek Mississippi. Dove Agnew, the daughter of Mildred Agnew who owns the quilt shop, is back at home after a devastating turns of events involving her career in New York.
She’s trying to keep her mom from finding out why she’s back in Mississippi but her secret threatens to come out when there’s a dead body found in the quilt shop. And Dove was the last person to see this person alive.
It doesn’t help her case that the chief of police, who happens to be her ex, is now looking at her with suspicion. Now with the help of her mom’s friends and fellow quilters and the pet goat named Petunia, Dove has to solve the case before she is arrested for murder.
There’s mystery and intrigue and a whole lot of humor when it comes to this series!
I hope you’ll check it out and enjoy this as much as I have!
Hugs!
