The only way to beat death is to chase it.

Newly crowned, Red blames one person for his father’s murder: the secret sorceress sworn to protect the king. Alyana Barron, Royal Sorcerer to the throne of Tandera, fears her magic is weakening. For reasons they don’t fully understand, a powerful enemy twisted by dark magic wants them both dead.

When Red is cursed, his life entwines with Aly’s in ways neither of them expected. Together, they chase after a cure that will heal the king and restore her magic, but the closer they get to a cure, the nearer they step toward death, for the path to the cure is as dangerous as the curse itself.

Blade of Ash is the first in a new, epic YA fantasy series perfect for fans of clean enemies-to-lovers romance packed full of royal intrigue, legends, and plenty of ballgowns. If you like female bodyguards and forced proximity with life-and-death stakes, check out Blade of Ash.

Anger bent him closer, but something hotter than anger—betrayal he couldn’t explain—flamed his cheeks. “All these people can see you, and all this time I’ve pitied you thinking you lived entirely alone in your secrecy. My whole life really, I’ve thought the sorcerer stayed invisible because he—she, whatever—had to for some epic reason. But it turns out you come to our parties like anyone else. All dressed up and fancy and—What?”

Eyes of the people nearest them watched them closely.

He shifted his shoulders toward the food table, slamming a strawberry onto a plate to appear occupied. A server fluttered over to attempt to fill his plate for him, but he shooed the man away. He let Aly drift away down the table until the people directed their attention elsewhere.

“But this whole time you’ve been lying!” he hissed, stepping closer.

She whirled on him. “Oh really? You think I’m stupid enough to lie?” Her nose wrinkled as she scowled at him.

“You said no one can see you. You said that you never spoke to anyone besides my father and Ondorian—for six years!” A huff of air bull-snorted out of his nose. He squared his shoulders with the food table again, trying to appear interested in its display.

Aly mimicked his stance, her fingers drumming against the white tablecloth on either side of her crystal plate. “Simply because I am visible doesn’t mean anyone looks at me.”

Cheeks hot and chest full of tambourines, he guffawed. “How could you possibly think no one here will look at you?”
